I’m at the starting point with my fourth novel. Before I allow my insecurities to abandon the process and dwell in self-loathing, I made the decision to publish the first chapter on my website and suffer whatever consequences that may come my way. 

Sometimes, you have to make abrupt choices before certain opportunities are gone and you feel like a sore loser drowning in perpetual lament. I have no idea what will happen, but this should be interesting.

Who Am I? is a detective, serial-killer, mystery novel that starts off with the first victim getting killed! (Insert suspense tone) Yes, the most cliche opening in fiction writing. To be honest, I wonder how else are writers supposed to start a mystery novel without something gripping at the beginning? 

I could say more about the story to lure you in, but I’d rather leave you with just the cover photo, the genre, and the alleged assassin of which is… female. Yes, female killers have been seriously underrepresented in fiction, and I intend to give them the spotlight they have fought so hard to deserve. I’m all for women empowerment.

The first chapter is free, including the next few ones, until I decide to take your money with a lifetime subscription worth a cup of latte in the pre-inflation era. I should remind you that these chapters will be highly-revised first drafts. Even if I have the story outlined in my head, I may stumble upon some mistakes or material that needs to be rewritten for the final release. This is why the lifetime subscription for you to access these chapters will be bum-cheap.

The final publication of the novel, which could happen next year or in 2026—I don’t really know—could see some changes that I’m hoping will be minor. The story per se will remain the same. My goal is to publish one or two chapters per week.

I would love to talk about more fun stuff, not necessarily related to my novel, but I’ll save those for a future episode. There are plenty of things about the process that I’d like to share with you, I can’t wait to start. In fact, I’m going to do that right now, and I’ll be brief. I’ll do so by confessing one of my biggest, if not, the greatest fear I have about publishing Who Am I?

Oftentimes, I wonder why I should write this novel. I say this not because the story may lack purpose or depth. It is because I know, from experience, that a lot of time from my life will be spent writing something that could probably never be read by anyone. This business is a huge game of chance, a roll-in-the-dice, but that can be said about any entrepreneurial venture.

This isn’t the age of authors or skilled artists. It is the age of online influencers and degenerates. I’m of the belief that  if you strive to make something that can be valuable or helpful to people, you should pursue it no matter what. And if you are lucky enough to have that opportunity, it is best to fail at what you love doing rather than pursue something that would make you miserable.
